Deadly fumes
Yeah, I had chemistry lab today. It's experiment 2 for the record. Anyway, we have ditched titration and moved on to qualitative analysis. What's that you ask? Well, its basically a set of experiments you would carry out to detemine the anions, cations or gases. The first experiment for the semester involves only the formation of percipitate. It's less harmful as the substance remains in the test tube. Unlike gas of course. Well, you've guessed it. Today's experiment involved the formation of gases. Ranging from bromin to oxygen. You name it.
First up was to observe the changes when dilute hydrohloric acid is mixed with sodium chlorate (I). Well, a blue litmus paper is placed just at the mouth of the test tube. What do you think happened? No, the colour did not change from blue to red. It went from blue to colourless. Why? Chlorine is a bleaching chemical. The next test was the bomb. Concentrated sulphuric acid is added to separate portions of potassium chloride, potassium bromide and potassium iodide. I'm sure you can guess that chlorine, bromin and iodine gas would be released respectively. Well, all three gases are foul smelling. Even conducting the test in the designated area didn't help. We were then "banned" from doing the test. Lol. Only a lucky few got to do that stinky test. =)
After that was to heat a little ammonium sulphate with sodium hydroxide. Right, right. Ammonia is released and the red litmus paper changes colour from red to blue. Nothing new here =). Then, a glass rod dipped in dilute acid hydrochloric is inserted into the gas formed. A white coloured gas is visible. What's that? Ammonium chloride. Fast forward to the hydrogen test. Well, a lit splinter is invovled. Expecting to hear a pop sound? Yes, it did happen. But it was a high pitched one. Sounded more like vacuum. The final test was oxygen. Manganese (IV) oxide is added to hydrogen peroxide. I took a little of both and mixed it together. Both substances reacted and somehow it overflowed. Quickly, I went to the sink and poured the excess away. It was hot! I had the chemicals on my hand too. I washed it quickly though. Thank God I didn't get oxidised. Ha ha.

Camera on holiday
Hmm, school's out for two weeks.
My camera has been working for almost every single day.
Okay, perhaps it takes a rest on Sunday and Saturday.
But hey, it deserves a break too!
It's enjoying live in Hong Kong for three weeks.

Victoria Institution - Part 2
To understand today's post, think positive in a sacarstic way.
Break time
After all those, there was a thirty minute break time for everyone to get some refreshments as well as to socialise. I took a drink and went around snapping photos. Heh. Soon after, the emcee called everyone back into the hall, back to their seats before moving on with the night. Just observe what a 12x zoom camera can do xP.
Dance
Heating up the night was a dance performance. This time it was ... I don't know what it's called but it was like hip hop?? As you can see there's this good looking guy in the middle with the black shirt over him. He should be the dance leader I guess, since he's taking the stage most of the time. Alright girls, I don't have his contact number. Aw. So go to your bedroom and sulk. They danced to an old song. I can't recall what's the title.
Lucky Draw
What's an event without a lucky draw? Numbers were picked at random for three times to be exact. Of course each of the picks had a time interval between them. The prize? One year supply of 7-UP ice if you take one bottle per month. Ration, ration. Oh besides that, for those who got their way to Victoria Institute without a private car, the prize guarantees muscles upon reaching home. =)
Bands
Other than dancing, the only thing left to do is singing. Ah yes, our very own Victoria Institute Idol. The first contestant in green sang Keep your hands of my girl by Good Charlotte. First up, I'm not into them. Second, the way he sang it had some slang which makes it hilarious. Optimistic please! I think he sang it that way as he couldn't reach some notes. So well done anyway. You did your homework =). The guy in blue made his appearance during the second song. He did sing, but the lead was still the guy in green. My sacrifice. That was the song sung by the guy in dark blue. Again with the hilarious slang. The reason? Same as the green guy's. Anyway, it was a good performance. Keep it up and I'd have to say they have guts to perform. =)

Want to win a lucky draw but never got lucky? This is how you do it. Have low confidence in yourself. Keep telling yourself you won't win. Telling the person next to you about it will help too. If you're extreme, lament on how bad the prize is, especially when it's a one year supply of 7-UP ice. If you win, share the winnings. This method has been tested and proven, as shown below.

To ensure people present that night come again, be sure to appreciate them with a gift no matter how small or cheap it is. The thought counts, doesn't it? =) Other than that, be sure that your facial expression clearly shows how you feel about a person. Whether you're planning to get to know the person better or you just want to tell the fella to piss off etc etc. Be sure to stare at your receipient's from head to toe. If you like what you're staring at, give a big big smile. =D If not, just act gay.
As a receipent, you could wear a small shirt, put your hands up in the air and scream to show your midrift as a way of saying thank you. If you're too matured for that, just lose some cloth and everyone will be asking for less.
School Song
Before ending the night, everyone is required to stand up as a sign of respect to the school's song. Keep up the patriotisme. You will need it.

Victoria Institution - Part 1
Interact Club of Victoria Institution International Understanding Day.
The Speeches
Ivan and I set off for KL central via the KTM service to join our friend, followed by a Monorail ride to the Hang Tuah station. It was quite a walk from the station to Victoria Institute. The school is enormous. Maybe quadruple of any school in Subang Jaya. We walked past the extremely huge field and came to the entrance of the hall soon after. Bought our tickets and registered there. There was a column for school. I wrote there SMK USJ 12 without realising I'm already out of that school. Ha ha. Walked through a mini "tunnel" which had pictures and the story about King Midas on the sides. Oh yeah, did I mention that the theme was The Midas Touch? The event kicked off quite late. Malaysian timing again I presume. As usual, it started off with speeches. Luckily it wasn't too long. At least people are adapting!
The Crowd
Turnout that night was good. More than a hundred came for the event. The crowd comprised of Interactors from different parts of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. But of course the majority of them are from around there. The dress code was strictly decent or formal. Most people were in their formal attire. Wonder why? More sexy perhaps? =P
Drumline and Shuffle
First up was a drumline. This is the first time I have seen one. There were four people playing the drums creating a synchronised beat. The rhythm sounded highly repetitive though. Not many variations were available. During the drumline a bunch of guys jumped out and "shuffled". Well, nothing much to fancy about. They did no more than one move. Was quite disappointed. Ha ha.
Another speech
Then came another speech. This time it was from the Assistant IU Director.
The Sketch
The sketch was about a bunch of people seeking treasure. They met some enemies, prepared for battle and eventually won. Of course they found the treasure at the end. The characters were taken from movies like Ghost Rider and White Chick. The plot was a little bland. People enjoyed it for its humour as the guy who cross-dressed as a girl imitated the detectives in White Chicks perfectly. Guess what? The treasure was a dead person. I couldn't connect it with the plot. =)

Interact Club is a charity club. Of course they donated a sum of money to a charity organisation.

Leaving on the jetplane
Oops! Hold your horses. I ain't going anywere yet for any matter. At least for now I will still be around. The future is uncertain! =)
Fly, fly like oxygene
It was INTIMA week from the 22-24th of this month. All clubs were obligated to set up a booth to recruit members for their cause. Of course we had to decorate the empty boards to attract the student's attention as well as "educating" students on what the club does. Giju and I met Ivan at his place to prepare the items that were to be put up on Tuesday. Our theme was simple. We did everything black and white as we thought other clubs would play with colours. To be the odd one out, black and white is a good choice! We took around three hours and we were done.
The concourse was supposed to be filled with boards by Monday. We came to college on Monday anxious to set up our booth. However, it seems that the boards were not arranged in that matter. Plans to set up the booth on that day was scrapped. We left the items at the A-Levels office. Only on Tuesday could we start work. Talk about last minute. Sigh. Ah well, we did everything in 30 minutes. Just enough time to make it to Biology class.
The produce? We manage to recruit more than ten members. I know it's not a comparable sum to clubs like Circle K. Heck, I need quality and not quantity.

Third Week of Semester Two
Came to college early in the morning. Sat down at the usual spot. Looked around and spotted a notice. Was supposed to prepare the booth for potential members to join the club. It seems that the boards were not arranged yet.

Fast forward to Biology lab. We combined experiment 2 and 3 today. Experiment two was about observing cells which are undergoing mitosis and meiosis. Experiment three was rearranging the chromosome to form 23 pairs. It seems that the person had Down's syndrome as he had an extra chromosome.

For Physics, we had an experiment on determining the focus length of a given lens. The procedure was quite tough as it was hard to measure the exact value of the lengths. Finished it after an hour or so. The boards were still not yet up. Talk about efficiency. Heh.
