Prefect Development Course 13-15th July 2007
How would you spend your weekend? For the form 1,2 and 4 prefects of SMK USJ 12, it was spent by attending a development course in school. The event kicked off at 5 PM, with the form 1 and 2 prefects having to skip an hour or so of classes. Participants had the ever-so-distinct yellow t-shirt and track pants on as they entered "Dewan Aulia" for their first activity. At that point in time, I was not yet in school to document the event. Was watching a movie with my friends.

Based on the video recordings done by Ong Hui Zhe, Kunil gave an opening speech first, introducing the facilitators and such. After that, they had a game. First, a large number of participants were directed out of the hall. Then, one person is selected randomly to read a short story out aloud. He/she will have to act out the story without uttering a single word later on. The next step was to call back those who were out of the hall. And hence the game begun. Dinner was served later on.

When they were done with their dinner only did I reach school. I brought my camera long with some home work. Instead of physical activities, the agenda was on speeches. Self development of course. Kunil got the ball rolling with his speech. A microphone was placed in the middle of the hall to allow questions to be asked by members of the floor. It was a good session. Many prefects spoke their minds. Kunil on the other hand gave a reasonable answer. He's a former debator. What would you expect out of him?

Next was Ang Jian Wei's turn. As former Head Prefect of the school as well a debator, he spoke on leadership, stating that leadership changes everytime. He gave an example about Winston Churchill during World War II and after. He also took the experience he acquired during his world debating competitions held in Korea as an example. A leader can be of many kinds indeed.

The form 1 and 2 prefects were allowed to return home at about 10.30 PM, leaving only the form 4 prefects. They will be having a talk on managing the prefect board after that. The form five prefects took over. Munirah and Jo Ann spoke about choosing the right people for the right positions. Sometimes, we just have to work with people we don't like. I went home at 11.30 PM to sleep comfortably on my bed! =)
